My servitude began in March
In a familiar place;
Between four walls we painted together
Back when you promised
Never to do me harm,
To always be by my side,
And one by one,
Things began to slide
“One of us has to stay,” you said
As you left for work
Leaving me trapped inside.
Over time,
What was yours became mine
To clean
As dishes piled up and dust gathered
And our children pattered around
Our home,
And even though we spent the nights together
I’ve never felt so alone.
