Burial Rites
I was still awake
When the embalming process started
She made the incision
And cut me wide open
Caressed each organ in turn
And removed them
Crushing them, one by one
Underfoot.
She replaced my organs with
A hardening fluid
A pain that spread to every part
Of me
A warm mix of anger and despair
And final numbness, when
She was no longer there.
